I've been involved in a little guerrila gardening at work, ostensibly under the guise of
'Digging for Victory', a cross curricula project between History and Food Technology
However it's original concept was floated to the Estates Department a year ago, when I
asked for a small plot to grow some vegetables. I failed to elicit a response from the entire
department, but my indignation and enthusiasm filtered around the Faculty and I was given a small,
shady, out of the way spot behind the gas shed between two manhole covers (do I sound bitter?)as part of the project
mentioned previously.
Rows of peas, broad beans and runners are the result and I thought I'd share my green fingured
success with you
virtually.

Runners had a bad start and will be late, but the peas have finished cropping and I'll
have a week of broadbeans in a few days. As the fruits of my labours come along I
feel enthused and look forward to increasing the size of my plot and preparing it for
next year, with sweetcorn, pickling onions. I'll be trying winter cauliflowers once the
peas and beans are clear, but September is a notoriously busy time at work so I
hope I stay
upbeat.

Bringing in the harvest. Anyone got a nice Chianti?
